"Most Intriguing Books on Religion We Read This Year" - "Intimate Alien: The Hidden Story of the UFO"

DURHAM, N.C. - Amzeal -- David J. Halperin's book "Intimate Alien: The Hidden Story of the UFO," published in 2020 by Stanford University Press, has been named by Religion News Service among "the most intriguing books on religion we read this year."

"A retired professor of religious studies at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Halperin has been fascinated with the heavens at least since he wrote his Ph.D. dissertation on the biblical prophet Ezekiel's vision of a chariot blazing across the sky. UFOs are a myth - but myths are real, Halperin says.  The power and fascination of the UFO has nothing to do with space travel or life on other planets.  It's about us, our longings and terrors, particularly the greatest terror of all - the end of our existence.
