TCL Awards NXT in Fashion Winners in Partnership with Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising

Amzeal News/10559796
IRVINE, Calif., April 2, 2024 ~ TCL, a leading company in display technology for smartphones, tablets, and connected devices, has announced the winners of its partnership with the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising (FIDM) in Los Angeles for the NXT in Fashion program. The top three winners were chosen by a panel of judges from the fashion industry.

At the beginning of the semester, TCL gifted students from FIDM's Advanced Fashion Design program with their unique TCL NXTPAPER 11 tablet. This tablet was used by students to sketch their designs for their final project, the FIDM Debut Fashion Show on March 29th. The judges evaluated the creations and awarded cash prizes provided by TCL to the top designers. The grand prize of $10,000 was divided among Ash ($1,000), Cam Wilson ($2,000), and Ronald Harris Jr., who took home $7,000 as the first place winner.

The judging panel consisted of notable alumni and figures from the fashion industry including Candice Cuoco, Project Runway finalist and current Vice President of Creative at Frederick's Hollywood and House of Desire; Godoy, former Netflix Next in Fashion contestant and RuPaul's Drag Race designer; Marina Toybina, seven-time Emmy Award winning costume designer; Trinidad Garcia, marine veteran and owner of Trinidad3 Jeans; TJ Walker, FIDM faculty member and co-founder of Cross Colours and Black Design Collective; and Kaylaynn McAdams, TCL's Manager of Social Media.

Expressing his excitement about winning first place in the TCL NXT in Fashion program, Ronald Harris Jr. said "I am super happy that my design was recognized by the judges. Their validation means a lot to me after all my hard work. I plan to use the prize money to treat myself to a vacation and produce my next collection using the TCL NXTPAPER 11 tablet."

The NXTPAPER technology used in this tablet combines software and hardware to provide a more comfortable and natural look and feel. Unlike traditional LCD screens, the NXTPAPER 11 has a matte finish and textured screen that offers a paper-like experience, which is more familiar to creators. Additionally, the screens reduce harmful blue light by up to 61%, making it beneficial for designers who spend long hours staring at screens.

Ian Nichols, Director of Marketing at TCL, stated "Seeing these students use our technology to excel in their field reaffirms our commitment to our brand ethos of Inspire Greatness. We are incredibly proud of how the NXT in Fashion Program has supported the future generation of artists and designers."

A recap of the NXT in Fashion program can be found on TCL's social media channels including Facebook, Instagram, X, TikTok, and YouTube. The winning designers will also be featured alongside the latest news from TCL.
