Smithers Rapra Adds Key Expertise at Extractables and Leachables Lab to Support Growing Client Needs

AKRON, Ohio - Sept. 18, 2017 - Amzeal -- Smithers Rapra, a world leader in rubber, plastics and composites testing expertise, announced today the hiring of Wes Gray, Senior Scientist and Project Lead, at the extractables and leachables lab located in the Akron Global Business Accelerator. Gray joins Principal Scientist Alison Schweda, hired in July, at the lab, where extractables and leachables, migration chemistry, and food contact analyses are conducted.

The team is focused on supporting a growing list of clients in the food, medical and pharmaceutical industries through each stage of the product development process. Led by General Manager Paul Cummings, services provided to clients include risk assessment, study design, method development, study execution, and regulatory submissions.

"We are pleased to have a strong research team in place under the leadership of Paul Cummings," said Nat Leonard, President, Smithers Rapra. "Smithers is committed to providing state-of-the-art technology and expertise in order to be a better partner to our clients. With this expansion, we are proud to be one of the only contract research organizations able to provide extractables and leachables and food contact assessments to customers in both North America and Europe."

Gray has 25 years of experience in chemistry and laboratory operations management in the pharmaceutical and pharmacological industries. He most recently worked as the research operations manager at the Pediatric Pharmacology Research Center at the University of Toledo in Toledo, Ohio. He earned a Master of Science degree in Analytical Chemistry and a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry from Youngstown State University.
