Scripps promotes Detroit station sales leader to VP and general manager of KTNV in Las Vegas

CINCINNATI, Aug. 1, 2024 ~ The E.W. Scripps Company has announced the promotion of John Cook to the position of vice president and general manager for KTNV, the ABC affiliate in Las Vegas. This change will be effective as of September 3rd.

Cook brings a wealth of experience to his new role, having previously served as senior director of sales for WXYZ and WMYD, two Scripps-owned stations in Detroit. In this position, he successfully led the sales department and oversaw both linear and digital/OTT revenue streams for the stations, including sports coverage on WMYD.

Anita Helt, regional vice president and general manager for Scripps, expressed her confidence in Cook's abilities, stating that he is "an experienced local media executive who has hit the ground running at Scripps." She also praised his leadership skills and ability to navigate a constantly evolving media landscape.

Prior to joining Scripps, Cook held various sales leadership positions at WDIV in Detroit under Graham Media Group. He also has experience in direct mail and print advertising sales, as well as serving as a regional vice president for a direct mail magazine.

In his new role at KTNV, Cook is eager to join the team of professionals and immerse himself in the vibrant Las Vegas community that ABC 13 serves. He sees it as an honor to lead such a talented team and is committed to delivering impactful community journalism and high-quality sports entertainment through their partnership with the Vegas Golden Knights.

Cook holds a degree in business management technology from the University of Akron. He has been a board member of the Better Business Bureau Serving Eastern Michigan since 2010 and has also served on the ABC Sales Advisory Board since 2022.
