Talc and asbestos are often found together in geologic formations. In many places, talc deposits are contaminated with asbestos.
Asbestos can be lethal or non-lethal - called non-asbestiform. Toxic asbestos fibers can result in asbestosis, a respiratory disease, or in mesothelioma, an incurable and aggressive cancer.
There are three types of mesothelioma: pleural mesothelioma (in the lungs), peritoneal mesothelioma (in the abdomen), and testicular mesothelioma.
Symptoms of mesothelioma often do not occur for years after exposure. About 3,000 people are diagnosed with mesothelioma each year.
