Inventor of Patented ICU Ventilation System Fights Back Against False Credit Claims

ANAHEIM, Calif. - Amzeal -- Inventor of Patented ICU Ventilation System Fights Back Against False Credit Claims
Orange County, CA, I, Dr. Fleur Tehrani, the inventor of Adaptive Support Ventilation (ASV), am compelled to speak out in response to ongoing misinformation and baseless claims regarding my patented invention. In 1991, I was granted U.S. Patent No. 4,986,268 for an automated ICU ventilation system known today as ASV. This innovation has since become a widely commercialized and life-saving technology in critical care.
In 2000, I was forced to take legal action against Hamilton Medical for patent infringement. The federal court ruled in my favor through a motion for summary judgment in 2001. Hamilton Medical appealed the decision, and while the appellate court required a jury trial for infringement, Hamilton Medical continued to lose every subsequent motion in federal court. Ultimately, they sought a licensing agreement, which we signed in 2004. Under this agreement, Hamilton Medical was obligated to pay royalties and could market ASV only under the terms of my patent. In 2007, at their request, I signed a supplemental agreement allowing them to refurbish older ventilators with ASV.

Despite these legally binding agreements and the clear record of ownership, Dr. Josef Brunner—Hamilton Medical's former research director, who never contributed to the invention—has falsely attempted to claim credit for ASV. Dr. Brunner has no publications or patents relating to ASV that predate the ASV patent, yet he continues to spread misinformation, most recently through a coordinated campaign on Wikipedia.
His claims have been consistently rejected by the courts and dismissed by refereed scientific journals. This matter has long been settled in both legal and academic communities. For further clarity, I refer readers to the following publications:
