First-of-its-Kind Glass Flood Wall Section Installed on Charleston Low Battery Sea Wall Repair Project
Amzeal News/10467148
The City of Charleston will unveil a commemorative glass sea wall panel celebrating the completion of Phase 2 of the Low Battery Sea Wall Project. This glass panel, donated by Floodproofing.com and Fenex Flood Mitigation Products, is showcasing the future of floodproofing technology along with the companies and individuals who have helped bring the project to completion.
CHARLESTON, S.C. - Amzeal -- On April 11th at 11:00 a.m, the city of Charleston will unveil its first glass flood wall section after closing the recent phase of its Low Battery Sea Wall Project. The glass sea wall panel is the first-of-its-kind in the US and will signify the start of using this new, state-of-the-art technology to extend sea wall height.
The sea wall section, donated by Floodproofing.com and Fenex, will serve as a commemorative plaque as well as a functional piece of the designed flood protection. Floodproofing.com and Fenex specialize in flood mitigation solutions such as this and have donated the panel as proof of its capabilities in this type of application.
"Being a South Carolina native, I'm honored to be part of this solution," says Zach Faulkner, Sales Team Director at Floodproofing.com. "I've seen the effects of flooding in the area and I'm proud that Charleston is innovating by using such an aesthetic, ground-breaking product."

These floodproof glass sea walls are unlike any floodproofing product available as they are designed into the structure, are always ready to protect, and do not impede the coastal view. They provide an aesthetic solution to this growing and inevitable problem Charleston, along with many other cities, is currently facing.
Charleston is the leading the way with this project as it combats the threat of sea level rise. Using this new technology and solution, the city is taking steps to protect its community while maintaining the beauty of the Lowcountry. Rather than focusing on building higher sea walls, the glass panels allow residents to preserve their view.
"The reconstruction of the Low Battery Seawall will serve as one of the City's newest lines of defense against rising sea levels and the constant threat of flooding to the downtown peninsula," says Ryan Mattie, Senior Associate at Johnson, Mirmiran & Thompson, Inc. "This panel represents a solution to provide additional future flood protection with minimal visual obstruction to the Charleston Harbor and surrounding area."
