Empowering Health Through Access to Organic Produce
Amzeal News/10571515
JAMAICA, N.Y. - Amzeal -- The Southeast Queens Chamber of Commerce together with partners Ahsak Skincare and Mother Earth Juice Bar and Health Foods Cafe are hosting a farm stand and market dedicated to providing a diverse array of organic produce, including kale, sweet corn, farm-fresh eggs, and beets. "We believe that access to wholesome, nutritious food is a right, not a privilege, and strive to make healthy choices more accessible to everyone", said Dr Lord. Nestled in a region where fast-food chains like McDonald's, Pizza Hut, and various fried chicken spots dominate, our market stands as a beacon of nutritional wellness.
African Americans face higher risks for a range of health conditions, including heart disease, stroke, cancer, asthma, influenza and pneumonia, diabetes, and HIV/AIDS. This disparity is highlighted by the Office of Minority Health, part of the Department of Health and Human Services. Addressing these health inequities requires targeted efforts to improve access to nutritious food, quality healthcare, and preventive care.
Access to nutrient-poor, inexpensive, shelf-stable items from dollar and liquor stores is prevalent. These environments often contribute to poor dietary habits and exacerbate health disparities. Addressing these issues involves increasing the availability of healthy food options and supporting community-driven initiatives to improve food access and overall health outcomes.
