LONG BEACH, Calif. , Feb. 18, 2025 ~ Miller Children's & Women's Hospital has announced the appointment of Dr. Anupama Shetty as the new medical director of their level IV Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) in Long Beach. Dr. Shetty, who previously served as the medical director of Neonatal Cardiology at Miller Children's & Women's, brings with her a wealth of specialized knowledge and years of experience in managing complex neonatal cardiac cases.

According to Graham Tse, M.D., chief medical officer at Miller Children's & Women's Hospital, Dr. Shetty has demonstrated exceptional leadership skills and a strong commitment to improving neonatal outcomes. Her background in neonatal cardiology and congenital heart disease makes her uniquely qualified to lead the NICU and expand its pediatric cardiology capabilities.

Dr. Shetty takes over from Dr. Antoine Soliman, who has been appointed as the regional medical director for Miller Children's & Women's Neonatal Network. In his new role, Dr. Soliman will be responsible for expanding neonatal services across Los Angeles and Orange Counties. Meanwhile, Dr. Shetty will oversee the day-to-day operations of the NICU and work closely with Dr. Soliman to advance neonatal care services throughout the hospital and community.

Under Dr. Shetty's leadership, the NICU at Miller Children's & Women's will continue to grow and incorporate innovative practices, extensive care and research, and enhanced support programs for birthing parents and families. These efforts aim to strengthen the hospital's ability to meet the diverse and complex needs of premature or critically ill newborns.

Dr. Soliman praised Dr. Shetty for her invaluable contributions as a neonatologist and medical director of the neonatal cardiology program at Miller Children's & Women's Hospital. He also commended her servant leadership approach, which involves working closely with her colleagues in the NICU while keeping patients and their families at the center of care.

Miller Children's & Women's Hospital is a Level IV NICU, the highest designation for neonatal care, capable of treating the most critically ill and premature newborns. The hospital offers specialized programs to meet the unique needs of their patients, including the Tiny Baby Program, which provides specialized care for babies born before 28 weeks gestation or weighing less than 2 pounds at birth. The NICU also has a dedicated transport program available 24/7, with a skilled team of physicians and nurses who travel to nearby hospitals when a baby requires specialized care and transport them to Miller Children's & Women's.

She also completed fellowship training in pediatric cardiac intensive care at UPMC Children's Hospital in Pittsburgh. With her extensive experience and expertise, Dr. Shetty is well-equipped to lead the NICU at Miller Children's & Women's Hospital towards even greater success in providing top-notch neonatal care.
