Delong Instruments was founded in 1992, but their history can be traced back to 1955. They are based in Brno, Czech Republic, the epicentre of electron microscopy development. The LVEM's low-kV design offers imaging performance that is comparable or superior to other much larger high-kV (e.g. 120kV) systems for many applications. It uniquely provides high contrast imaging for low Z materials and is ideal for imaging cells and other organic materials.

The LVEM systems provide the option to incorporate alongside the TEM mode Scanning Transmission Electron Microscopy (STEM), Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Electron Diffraction (ED), as well as Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy (EDS) making for a highly versatile, yet compact device.
