Colbert Packaging Teaches Students About the Origin of Paperboard and Recycling

Students learn about the lifecycle of trees and sustainable packaging
KENOSHA, Wis. - Amzeal -- Students at Trevor-Wilmot Consolidated School, in Trevor, Wisconsin, celebrated Earth Week by learning about the cycle of life from trees to paper and back to trees. Corporate neighbor Colbert Packaging presented the outreach and educational program to 50 eager and engaged second-grade students. The interactive session is dubbed TICCIT, which stands for "Trees into Cartons, Cartons into Trees." Designed by the Paperboard Packaging Council (of which Colbert Packaging is a member), the program teaches young learners about the role trees play in the environment and our economy. It also highlights the importance of sustainable packaging and recycling. After a lively slideshow discussion, students are invited to prepare and take home their very own tree sapling in a paperboard planter.
"Paperboard packaging is a renewable resource and an important part of the circular economy. Colbert's commitment to sustainability also includes supporting renewable energy through our investment in Wind RECs and engaging in an ongoing effort toward zero manufacturing waste to landfill," said Corporate Compliance Manager Jeff MacDougall. "It's an honor to present this program to an area school and share our passion for environmental stewardship with the next generation."
