NEW YORK - Oct. 2, 2018 - Amzeal -- More than 50% of patients undergoing cancer therapy will develop some type of treatable skin, hair or nail condition.1 Shirin Tinati knows this all too well.

Shirin Tinati is a photographer. She is smart, lively and beautiful. She is a warrior. Diagnosed with Triple Negative Ductal Carcinoma, a highly aggressive and rare form of breast cancer, she endured months of painful cancer therapies and surgeries before finally reaching remission.

Months after she was deemed cancer-free, Shirin noticed dark lesions appearing all over her body. Her oncodermatologist diagnosed her with another rare and complicated disease: Radiation Induced Morphea (RIM). Her shins, abdomen and lower back looked a dark,bruise-like color, and the skin felt thin enough to tear.

Shirin's Journey to Avène

Shirin's oncodermatologist prescribed treatment at the Avène Hydrotherapy Center, which has been clinically shown to improve quality of life and alleviate side effects for non-metastatic breast cancer patients.2  Before Shirin left for her treatment, she did not have much hope that a simple water would produce skin-changing results.

By the time Shirin came back, she said, "For the first time since I was diagnosed, I felt at peace with my body." For Shirin, Avène was not just a place to find physical relief but also a time to reconnect with her body. Through her most difficult moments, her body seemed to let her down time and time again, but today, Shirin is proud of the journey she's been through.
